From: "Julia van Mourik" <juliavm@dds.nl> Date: Tue, 21 Sep 1999 13:43:01 +0200 ENTRY FORM EXPLODING CINEMA/INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL ROTTERDAM 5th Exploding Cinema / 29th International Film Festival Rotterdam 26 January - 6 February 2000 Deadline for Submission October 15, 1999 Exploding Cinema is the programme in which the Film Festival focuses on the future of cinema. As we line up to enter the next millennium, cinema is being transformed by the digital era in a rapid way. At the same time, cinema has become a universal language influencing visual culture as a whole, and is used in digital media and the fine arts as well as in clubs and computer games. Exploding Cinema explores how the style and grammar of cinema are being used and taken by filmmakers and artist's >from all corners of the art and media world. Exploding Cinema explores all those new forms of cinematography in other media and environments, and looks into the future and it's effect on cinema as we know it. In the last four years, the Exploding Cinema programme featured interactive or cinematographic installations from artist's such as Diller & Scofidio, Judith Barry, John Maybury and Steve McQueen, live events exploring the field of visualising sound with performances by Pierre Henry, David Shea, Ken Ishii, DJ Spooky and Photek, lectures about the future of cinema from filmmakers such as Peter Greenaway and presentations of new media designers and theorists as Janet Murray, the MIT Medialab, Saskia Sassen, Steven Johnson and Douglas Rushkoff. CALL FOR ENTRIES Participation in the programme is open to feature films, experimental films, shorts and innovative visual productions for digital media (networks, cd-rom, games, installation). HOW TO ENTER Send the items listed below according to the type of entry you are submitting (net-work, CD-Rom, game, installation, live concert/performance, film/video). There is no entry fee. It should contain new work, so made between the 1999 and the 2000 festival's deadline for submission october 1, 1999. Entry forms must be completed, along with the following enclosures: - Video-democassette VHS (PAL/NTSC), U-Matic (PAL/NTSC) - Director's statement- Biography and filmography of the director - Cast and crew list - Synopsis - Stills or Slides (at least 1) - Press booklet None of the above listed enclosures will be returned. Networks, CD-Roms, games Please submit CD-Rom or URL, labelled with title, format and relevant technical details. Please give technical requirements and preferred setting for exhibition. Installations (film, video and new media art to exhibit) Please send a written proposal, visual material (VHS preview copy), a cv and a proposed budget. Concert and Live performances Please send VHS/CD and technical requirements.
