NEW TECHNOLOGY ARTS FELLOWSHIP SCHEME (PHASE 1) CALL FOR PROPOSALS Crucible, Kettle's Yard and the Junction are joining together to develop a New Technology Arts Fellowship Scheme. The scheme will give artists access to cutting edge technology through direct partnerships with technology researchers. The first phase of this scheme will begin in January 2002 and is intended as a research and development period. Up to three artists will be selected to work over a three-month period to establish partnerships and develop proposals for longer-term projects. We would like to invite applications from artists with a track record in producing work based on information and communication technologies, and an interest in exploring interactivity in partnership with technologists. ------------------------------------------------------- Crucible, Kettle's Yard and The Junction believe that interactive artwork offers new and exciting ways for artists to engage with their audiences, and we are keen to support its creation and dissemination. The Fellowship Scheme is intended as a means to bridge the gap between the research laboratory and the audience. It will enable artists to draw on and influence developments within the digital industry. Our aim is to bring together creative individuals from different fields and nurture synergy between them. Cambridge, as a recognised international centre for technological innovation, provides a rich context for such collaboration. Phase 1 will provide an opportunity for artists to pursue some exploratory ideas for interactive artwork, and assist us to develop the framework and funding to support the realisation of longer-term projects in Phase 2. -------------------------------------------------------- For more information and details of how to apply send SAE to: Kettle's Yard New Tech Castle St Cambridge CB3 0AQ UK or visit www.kettlesyard.cam.ac.uk/newtech E: newtech@kettlesyard.cam.ac.uk T: 44 (0) 1223 352124 Deadline for applications 24th September 2001 Interview dates Week beginning 12th November 2001 ------------------------------------------------ Crucible www.crucible.cl.cam.ac.uk Crucible is a research network within the University of Cambridge. Its purpose is to encourage interdisciplinary collaboration of technologists with researchers in the Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences (AH&SS). The main focus of this collaboration is on design as a meeting point for widely differing research disciplines. Crucible activities include the establishment of new research programmes, training of researchers, input to policy bodies, and identification of suitable funding sources for research in interdisciplinary design. Crucible recently hosted a major conference, convened by the Arts Council of England and the Academia Europaea. The conference on Collaboration and Ownership in the Digital Economy (CODE) offered multidisciplinary perspectives on the nature of ownership and reward for creative work www.cl.cam.ac.uk/CODE Kettle's Yard <www.kettlesyard.co.uk> Kettle? Yard is an exhibition gallery, specialising in contemporary and 20th century art, and a house with a permanent collection. It is an institution of the University of Cambridge. Kettle? It currently supports fellowships in the visual arts and in new music, and encourages experiment and research across art forms. Kettle? Yard regards the New Technology Arts Fellowship scheme as a way of extending an understanding of contemporary artwork into other disciplines. The Junction <www.junction.co.uk> The Junction is a performing arts venue in Cambridge with an eclectic programme of live music, club events, comedy, theatre, dance, live art and digital art through its digital studio.
