Einleitung: Nachdem im Februar 2000 die ersten Absolventen des jüngsten Fachbereiches der Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst (HGB) /Leipzig, ihr Medienkunst Diplom ablegten, möchten wir Sie hiermit recht herzlich zur Diplompräsentation der Absolventen des Sommersemesters 2000 einladen. Die Fachklasse für Medienkunst unter der Leitung von Prof. Helmut Mark, präsentiert am 7. Juli um 11.00 Uhr (Stephan Schröder) und um 13.00 Uhr (Britta Frahm) zwei Diplomarbeiten, die beide soziale Aspekte auf das Präsentationsmedium Netz abbilden, jedoch sehr unterschiedliche Arbeitsweisen aufzeigen. ________________________ __ _ _ 1. Britta Frahm .........................................."cellTV". Britta Frahm, geb. 27.12.1972 in Freiburg i. Br., kam 1994 für das Studium im Fachbereich Medienkunst an der Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst nach Leipzig. Seit 1996 ist das Internet ein wichtiger Bestandteil in fast all ihren Projekten. Dabei werden entwickelte Raumkonzepte mit den Kommunikationsmöglichkeiten des Internets erweitert. In der Gruppe Brainstar (http://www.brainstar.org) konnten Ideen aus dieser Richtung umgesetzt werden. Bei den Installationen von Brainstar, wie Studio Inferno (temporäres TV-Studio) oder Camping (Ausstellungslounge/Kunstraum B2 Leipzig) ist die Zusammenarbeit von Künstlern mit unterschiedlicher Spezialisierung für ein Gelingen ausschlaggebend. Britta Frahm übernimmt in dieser Gruppe neben einer organisatorischen Rolle und der Mitarbeit an Konzept und Raumgestaltung hauptsächlich die grafische Darstellung der Gruppe. Die Designtätigkeit ist neben den künstlerischen Projekten das andere Interessenfeld von Britta Frahm. 1.1. .............................................Projektinformation »cellTV« ist eine alternative Art Fernsehen von und für Jedermann. Als Plattform dient das World Wide Web. Hier werden die Informationen gesammelt und stehen zum Abruf bereit. Das System basiert auf einfachen Begebenheiten und relativ leicht zugänglichen Produktionsmitteln. Die Teilnehmer dokumentieren Handlungen ihres täglichen Lebens und archivieren ihre Kurzfilme auf der Website http://www.celltv.org. Lokales wird dabei in ein globales Umfeld übertragen und kann verglichen werden. Die entstehende Sammlung versucht gesellschaftliche und kulturelle Gemeinsamkeiten oder Unterschiede festzuhalten. Die Installation, die zur Präsentation zu sehen sein wird, entspricht einer lokale Aktion, die neben der Distribution über Internet einen weiteres Vermittlungsfeld für Projekt und Thematik eröffnet. CellTV simuliert dabei Produktionsabläufe und informiert über Möglichkeiten zur aktiven Beteiligung an dem Projekt. CellTV ist ein Versuch mit einem offenen Kanal der zunehmenden Kommerzialisierung des Broadcastingbereiches im Internet eine Gegenbeispiel zu bieten. Stephan (Spiv) Schröder ................ "verybusy.org". Stephan Schröder, geb. 21.04.1975 in Magdeburg, ist seit 1990 unter dem Namen "Spiv" im Bereich der Computergrafik tätig. Bis 1996 realisierte Stephan Schröder nationale und internationale Gruppenarbeiten auf Homecomputern (C64, Amiga, PC) in der Computerszene, in der er ausschliesslich als Grafiker tätig war. Nachdem 1995 aufgenommenen Studium der Medienkunst an der Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst / Leipzig, entdeckte er 1996 das Medium Netz als emanzipatorisches Mittel sich aus der Gruppe aus Programmierern und Computer-Musikern zulösen und autark Projekte zu realisieren. Stephan Schröder ist seit 1996 Programmierautodidakt in verschiedenen Internetprogrammsprachen (HTML, Javascript, Perl, Java...) und zugleich immer Grafiker und Designer geblieben. Stephan Schröder arbeitet nicht interdisziplinär, sondern ausschliesslich mit dem Medium Netz. Dies aber wiederrum mit der Prämisse, dass seine Projekte nicht seine Position, sondern das soziologische Phänomen "Netz" als solches thematisieren. 1997 realisierte er das Projekt "</BODY> - visual identity on the net" (http://www.hgb-leipzig.de/body/), ein Familienalbum zwischen "Frankenstein" (NBC Giga) und Avatar Netzidentität. Nach 2 Jahren Entwicklungsarbeit stellt Stephan Schröder seine jüngste Arbeit "verybusy.org - center 4 hardwired arts" (http://www.verybusy.org) vor. 2.1. .............................................Projektinformation Verybusy.org (http://www.verybusy.org) ist zunächst einmal aus der Notwendigkeit entstanden, dass es keinen zentralen Anlaufpunkt (Portal) geschweige denn eine Suchmaschine für Netzkunst gab. Desweiteren lässt sich Verybusy.org nicht in die üblichen Zweige aus redaktionell und maschinell (Roboter) erarbeiteten Inhalte bestehender Suchmaschinen einreihen. Die Suchmaschine für Netzkunst Verybusy.org, funktioniert autonom und demokratisch, Produzent und Konsument verschmelzen zum "Prosument". Hier definiert sich im Kant'schen Sinn Objektivität durch Intersubjektivität. Verybusy.org ist als Katalysator und offene Bibliothek einer seit wenigen Jahren bestehenden, aber unzureichend erschlossenen Netzkunstszene konzipiert. Im Gegensatz zu früheren Versuchen offener Plattformen, wie BBS (Bulletin Board Systems), die nun 10 Jahre zurückliegen, profitiert Verybusy.org von einer wesentlich reiferen Infrastruktur im Netz. Verybusy.org ist somit ein Rückgriff in die späten 1980er Jahre, gleichzeitig soll der Server aber den Bedürfnissen des 21. Jahrhunderts gerecht werden und die Aufgaben einer modernen und weltweit ersten Suchmaschine für Netzkunst erfüllen. ENGLISH VERSION ::::::::::::::::::::: ..........::::: Introduction: In February 2000, the first group of students graduated from the Department of Media Art, the youngest department at the Academy of Visual Arts Leipzig. We would like to invite you to the examination presentations of this year's graduates.The Media Class run by Prof. Helmut Mark will present two graduation works on 7 July 2000 at 11.00 a.m. (Stephan Schröder) and at 1.00 p.m. (Britta Frahm). Both address social aspects of the medium of the internet, yet each in a different way. 1. Britta Frahm .........................................."cellTV". Britta Frahm, born 27 Dec.1972 in Freiburg, came to Leipzig in 1994 to commence her studies in the New Media Department at the Academy of Visual Arts. During the past few years she has participated in numerous exhibitions and has been involved in various group projects. Brainstar is one such group and includes artists specialized in different fields and media, working together on projects that combine installations and telecommunication technology. In this connection, the internet with its abundance of livescreenings and chats is an important aspect of the project. Britta Frahm began working with the internet in 1996 and has reflected on mainstream aspects of her work as well as the group's environmental and graphic design. 1.1. .............................................Projectinformation As an alternative to commercial television "cellTV" applies the idea of exploiting the World Wide Web to collect and broadcast information. Everybody is invited to participate in the project, wherever they happen to be, regardless of age and social background. The system is based on very simple conditions and involves the use of easily accessible resources. People videotape their everyday lives and submit their short films to the archives on the website http://www.celltv.org The resulting collection of material attempts to define social and cultural differences and similarities. The presentation of the project will include an installation to establish an additional mode of distributing information on the project and its themes. Thereby cellTV emulates production methods and gives information on how to take part in the project. In contrast to conventional one-way broadcasting, cellTV enables the participant to have direct influence on it, focussing on dynamic visual exchange. 1.2. ................................................Where/What time? Stephan (Spiv) Schröder ................ "verybusy.org". Stephan Schröder, born 21 April 1975 in Magdeburg, has been working in the field of computer graphics under the name of "Spiv" since 1990. Until 1996 Stephan Schröder contributed to the realisation of group works on home computers (C64, Amiga, PC) in Germany and abroad. In the computer scene he was active as a graphic designer. After having been admitted to the Media Art Department at Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst Leipzig in 1995, he discovered the net as a means of freeing himself from the surrounding group of programmers and computer musicians and to continue working autonomously. Since 1996, Stephan Schröder has been teaching himself several different internet programming languages such as HTML, Javascript, Perl, Java and so on, but has also continued working in the field of graphic design. Stephan Schröder does not work in an interdisciplinary manner, but rather exclusively with the medium of the internet. However, this is based on the premise that his projects do not seek to express his artistic position but rather the sociological phenomenon of the internet as such. In 1997, he created "</BODY> - visual identity on the net", a project comprising a family photo album located somewhere between "Frankenstein" (NBC Giga) and avatar net-identity. After two more years of development on it, Stephan Schröder is presenting his latest work: "www.verybusy.org - center 4 hardwired arts" (Netart Searchengine) 2.1. .............................................Projectinformation The main intent of verybusy.org is that there is necessarily no central point or search database within the context of net-art at all. Furthermore, verybusy.org cannot be subdivided into the normal categories of editor and machine (robot) searchengines. The searchengine verybusy.org functions autonomously and democratically, the producer and the consumer blend and become a "prosumer". In this context, the Kantian notion of attaining objectivity through inter-subjectivity appears particularly topical. Verybusy.org was conceived as a catalyst and open library a number of years ago within the still badly explored context of net-art. In contrast to earlier attempts at establishing "open" modes of communication such as BBS (bulletin board systems) some 10 years ago, verybusy.org can profit from a much more highly evolved infrastructure in the internet. Thus, verybusy.org refers back to the late 1980's, however at the same time its server should fulfil the needs and requirements of the 21'st century as well as the tasks of a modern, global searchengine.
