CfP: “Appropriating Technology for Societal Change – The Dynamics of the Digital” of the Nordic Summer
University The summer session 2016 is organized in collaboration with the Centre for Digital Humanities at the University
of Gothenburg and is dedicated to the question of how digital technology affects the fabric of modern society. Relevant subjects may include but are not limited to: Openness and Secrecy ● What are the consequences of open data for democracy, education, science and politics? ● How is society affected by algorithms guiding social interaction and public debate? ● How should the problems of integrity and privacy be handled? ● What are the benefits/drawbacks of o pen/proprietary software? The University in the Digital Public Sphere ● How does digital technology transform the process of research? ● What are the consequences of the increased level of supervision and control in the academic realm? ● How is the relationship between science and politics affected by digital media? ● Should education be changed as a consequence of the possibilities opened by digital technology? Theorizations of the Digital ● How can the impact of (digital) technology on the fabric of society be
conceptualized? ● How do approaches to the digital originating in different intellectual traditions compare? (ex. media
theory, literary theory, phenomenology, critical theory, psychoanalysis, anthropology, systems theory, science and technology studies...) The Nordic Summer University (NSU) is an independent academic organization that for 65 years has organized
yearly summer sessions in the Nordic and Baltic countries. This year, the summer session will be in Orivesi, Finland, July 24 -31. If you want to present a paper in the circle, send an abstract of 600 words to the circle’s coordinators
