Jaana Kokko is an artist living and working in Helsinki, Finland. In her artistic practice she
is interested not only in the exploration of the expressive and historical aspects of art, but finds it equally important to understand and be aware
of the fact that a finished piece of art and the act of displaying it publicly are political comments. The importance to understand our political
history is equally important: What is the political heritage of ours and where do we belong?
At the OKK Jaana Kokko will show work in progress
a film called Social Sketches (Haven) 2014 installed in the gallery space. The experimental documentary film studies spaces as embodied politics. It
is filmed in Tallinn, Estonia in 2013-2014.
Jaana Kokko has had solo exhibitions for example in Moderna Museet, Stockholm (2012); Pori Art
Museum Finland (2013); Optica â Center for Contemporary Art, MontrÃal, Canada (2010); and Anna Ahmatova Art Museum in St. Petersburg, Russia
(2007). From 2010 she is a PhD student at Art Department at Aalto University, University of Art, Design and Architecture in Helsinki.
